General Information on "B.Sc. Wirtschaftspsychologie"

At RUB the study of Work & Organizational Psychology is subdivided into a six semester B.Sc.-course of study and a four semester M.Sc.-study program that are aligned to each other.

Typical fields of application for Work & Organizational Psychologists are
human resources departments, personnel department, as well as functions concerning market research and marketing, in business consultancies or as self-dependent consultant, trainer, or coach.
The companies' situation is marked by more and more complex assignments of tasks.

The ideal employee works on its own initiative, autonomous and forward thinking. Besides microeconomic qualifications, psychological competencies are becoming increasingly important.
Within the study of Work & Organizational Psychology you will acquire skills in both disciplines and, therefore, will be ideally prepared for the interface between individual and company or market.
You will learn to transfer psychological scientific findings to corporate workaday life, to approach managerial interests as for example recruiting, and to consider corporate organisation and benefits for enterprises.

  • Contents

The bachelor courses of study in Work & Organizational Psychology is subdivided into the areas of basic psychological knowledge with the focus on human resources management and neighbouring subjects. In total 180 credit points (CP) have to be acquired.
Basic psychological knowledge:
Psychological methods
General and biological psychology
Intra- and interpersonal processes (Social, Developmental, and Differential Psychology)
Work & Organizational Psychology
Work and human resources psychology
Aptitude testing as well as
Neighbouring subjects: e.g. economics, labour law, jurisprudence, and education

Performance Records

Performance records within the studies are carried out by the assignment of credit points. Those are, based on effort
    -  Written exams
    -  Written assignments
    -  Attendance of courses (freuquent participation, presentations etc.)
    -  Internships
    -  Oral exams

The number of credit points does not predictate anything about the benevolence of the performance. It only documentates its successful completion. In addition, marking will be given. Course achievements are, therefore, more comparable internationally, and a change in the location as well as semesters abroad are simplified significantly.
Struture of Modules
Modules are composed of multiple courses (e.g. lecture and seminar) and have to be attended in ist entirety, because deignated credit points and the total mark can only then be granted.
Practice Oriented Activity
Starting in third semester, during semester break, a practical activity wihtin an organisation outside the university has to be completed, e.g. in administration, economy, or Non-Profit-compay. The internship is ideally parented by a psychologist of the company or a university lecturer. The requirements that have to be fulfilled are included here as information sheet.
Bachelor Thesis
Within the last section of the 6th semester a six-weeks bachelor thesis will be drawn. This includes an empiric, preferably practical question and should not be longer than 30 pages. The work is ought to show that students are capable to apply acquired scientific knowledge and methods to a econmoc-psychological problem and to prepare a proposal for solution.

B.Sc. Work & Organizational Psychology is a scientific vocational study course within six semesters.
The course of study is limited to 30 students each year. Due to the consequent alignment to and specialisation in ecocomc-psychological contents, with the B.Sc. Work & Organizational Psychology you will be prepared comprehensively for psychological functions within economy and copmpanies in a short time.
Simoultaneously, the B.Sc. Work & Organizational Psychology gives the oppertunity to affilitate a master course of study, with which you can deepen or enumerate your knowledge.

  • Information on Admission

Admittance is annually effected at winter semester according to  ZVS-admittance criteria for B.Sc. Work & Organizational Psychology. The value of the so called "NC" varies according to amount and structure of applicants. As rough approximate value an overall average grade of 1,3 or 11 terms of waiting is referred to.
